Spreadsheets are a helpful tool for language learning. You can easily organize, track, and evaluate your conjugation practice digitally with a spreadsheet.
Do you know how to make a Spanish conjugation spreadsheet? Probably not. I’ll show you how to set up tabs with a few different ways to practice conjugating verbs.

Using Google Sheets for Spanish Conjugation Practice
Google Sheets is a spreadsheet found in Google Drive that provides awesome tools to help you make a conjugation practice worksheet. It works from anywhere and on any device because it is a web-based application.
If you’ve used Excel, Google Sheets has many of the same spreadsheet functions. You can download add-ons and custom code if you want. You can also use Google Docs to create and edit Spanish documents.

Let’s Get Started on Your Spanish Conjugation Practice
Before you can make your conjugation practice spreadsheet, you need access to Google Drive. If you haven’t used Google Drive before, you can access it through your Gmail account or by setting up a Google account. On the computer, go to drive.google.com or go to your apps and find Google Drive on a mobile device.
It would probably be easier to make your conjugation practice on a desktop or laptop rather than a mobile device. When you are ready to start, go to sheets.google.com or open the Google Drive dashboard and choose Google Sheets. Then open the menu and select File > New > Spreadsheet.
You’ll now have a blank untitled spreadsheet and you can use to make a conjugation practice spreadsheet.
Adding Information to Your Conjugation Practice Spreadsheet
When looking at your new spreadsheet, you’ll see the columns across the screen and rows down the left side. Columns are labeled with letters and rows are numbered. The screen is filled with rectangles called cells. One cell is highlighted in blue. If you start typing, the entry will go into the blue cell.
If this is your first time using a spreadsheet, take some time to get a feel for how it works. Select different cells, type in some information. When you are done select the cells and press delete to erase them.
When you press enter, the data you enter will be saved and you will be moved to the beginning of the next row. To move across the row, press tab. You can click on any cell to move there. The arrow keys on the keyboard will move you around the screen too.
A real time-saver is the copy and paste feature. Select the cells you want to copy, then open the Edit menu and select copy. Next, select the cell you want to paste to, open the Edit menu, and select paste. Or you can use keyboard shortcuts command c and command v.
How to Practice Spanish Conjugation in Google Sheets
This process may look overwhelming, but if you follow each step, you’ll have your conjugation practice set up in no time!
You’ll practice Spanish verb conjugations in the three verb classes and the verb tenses.
There are 9 steps to make your free Spanish conjugation practice spreadsheet. Let’s get started!
- Start in Cell B1 and label the subject pronouns across the first row.
2. Type “Infinitive Verb” in Cell A2 and list each of the verbs you want to practice conjugating underneath.
3. Now, for the first verb listed, enter the conjugated verb for “yo” and continue filling in the correct verb on the subject pronoun columns.
For example: ser, soy, eres, es, somos, sois, son
On this tab, you’ll have Spanish present tense conjugation practice for every verb.
4. Rename the “All Verbs” by clicking on the tab arrow, selecting rename, and enter the name.
5. Next, duplicate the tab and rename the new tab “Irregular Verbs”.
6. Repeat Step 5, but before duplicating erase the verbs you’ve entered. Make three new tabs and rename them “First”, “Second” and “Third” for the verb classes.
7. Now, add each verb to one of the class tabs based on the infinitive ending:
- First Class – ends with -ar
- Second Class – ends with -er
- Third Class – ends with -ir
Then conjugate across the row, same as Step 3.
In each of these tabs, the verb class patterns will be clear. The “First” tab has Spanish -ar verb conjugation practice. Similarly, the “Second” tab is for er verbs and the “Third” tab is for the -ir verbs. Continue adding more verbs to practice Spanish conjugation by class patterns.
Example: First Class – amar, amo, amas, ama, amamos, amais, aman
8. Next, repeat Step 5 again, this time duplicate 5 new tabs and rename with the verb tenses “Present” “Preterite”, “Imperfect”, “Future”, and “Conditional”.
On these tabs, you’ll have Spanish conjugation practice for all tenses for every verb.
9. Continue conjugating the verbs listed and enter new verbs too:
- Begin entering new verbs in the All Verbs tab and conjugate across the row.
- Next, enter the verb into one of the Irregular, First, Second, or Third Class tabs.
- Finally, conjugate the verb in all of the verb tense tabs.
What is the fastest way to memorize Spanish conjugations?
If your cells are full that’s terrific! But if you’re wondering why you still struggle to come up with the correct conjugation, then keep practicing until the conjugations are automatic to you. Take note of which verbs cause you the most trouble. Focus on them and similar verbs during your conjugation practice time.
Before you know it, with consistent repetition it will be super easy to come up with the right verb! At any point, you want to repeat typing in the conjugations, erase the row, and re-enter the conjugations. It takes 7 repetitions done over the course of several weeks to stick the conjugations into memory.
